I know this website is supposed to be a fount of wisdom, knowledge and understanding for all things bidet; but I just couldn’t resist this one:

Crap Cleaner (CCleaner for short) is free software that does an admirable job of cleaning accumulated junk files from your computer. One of the main reasons for Windows operating systems becoming sluggish over time is the amount of obsolete files that has to be sorted through during normal operation. When this gets unbearable, most people eventually take the plunge and simply do a clean reinstall of Windows, giving them a like-new computer once again. Unfortunately if you have many installed programs, this can take a lot of time. For several years now I have been manually getting rid of obsolete files from my hard drives, and using a commercially available registry cleaner to keep the registry from becoming a veritable junk yard. While it seemed to deliver reasonable results; I always felt the registry cleaner was a rip-off as it required a yearly subscription of $39.00USD. With the annual re-subscription looming, a little research on the web revealed this little gem – CCleaner. Absolutely free and better by far than what I had been paying good money for, its a cinch to use and so far has not deleted any files that shouldn’t be. For your peace of mind it; can also do a backup of the registry before removing anything.

The same company (Piriform) also provide a free de-fragmenting tool (Defraggler) that is better than what is provided standard with Windows XP, and miles ahead of what you get with Vista. Find the Piriform website here: CCleaner

For the record; most commercially available registry cleaners are scams, and get good exposure on the web by submitting numerous (apparently) un-biased independent reviews (always favourable of course). This is nothing more than a systematic program of “link bombing” which to date, has been very successful for these scam websites in achieving good rankings with search engines like Google. Here’s hoping Google finds a way soon to discredit this practice, and so assist in eliminating these rogues from the Internet market-place!
