We sell only time-proven, quality products that provide practical and durable solutions to real needs, and we always aim to always treat our customers – in just the same way we ourselves would like to be treated.
Origin of the business name:
Lusan is an old Scottish-Gaelic noun, a plural form of lus, which itself comes from old Irish meaning a plant, herb or weed. In its most liberal form – many plants.
Of course we didn’t know that when we first thought of the business name;
Lu – was simply a combination of our first names – but also a phonetic reference to the old English slang term for toilet – “loo”.
San – the second part of the name – is simply short for sanitation:
Sanitation: “The state of being clean and conducive to health” – defined by Wikipedia as: “the hygienic means of preventing human contact from the hazards of wastes to promote health.
The term “sanitation” can be applied to a specific aspect, concept, location, or strategy, such as:
Basic sanitation – refers to the management of human feces at the household level. This terminology is the indicator used to describe the target of the Millennium Development Goal on sanitation.

The United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) include a target to reduce by half the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015:
Target 7C: Halve, by 2015, the proportion of the population without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation.
In December 2006, the United Nations General Assembly declared 2008 ‘The International Year of Sanitation’, in recognition of the slow progress being made towards the MDGs sanitation target. That year aimed to develop awareness and action to meet the target. Ongoing concerns of particular importance are:
- Removing the stigma around sanitation, so that the importance of sanitation can be more easily and publicly discussed.
- Highlighting the poverty reduction, health and other benefits that flow from better hygiene, household sanitation arrangements and wastewater treatment.
LuSan Services was founded in 2005, on the belief that many Australians were looking for a more hygienic and comfortable after-toilet cleaning method than that offered by just dry paper. Initially, we looked to supply only the demand for hand held bidets; coming mainly from people of European, Indian, Asian and Middle-Eastern countries (who traditionally clean with water after toileting).
Deservedly popular in many countries around the world; there are some unique problems associated with fitting these efficient cleaning aids to most western toilets:
- Domestic water supply pressure can vary enormously, and is usually far too high in Australia for this application.
- Western toilets are usually dry areas, and water dripping from the wash gun nozzle after use is undesirable.
- To remain compliant with regulations, appropriate back-flow prevention devices must normally be fitted with bidet appliances, to minimize possible risk for contamination of the water supply to occur.
- Fastening the standard holder to standard plasterboard walls is not easy, as this usually means locating a wooden stud behind the plasterboard; this being often not in the best position for easy access when sitting on the toilet.
In 2009 the business name was changed from LuSan Services to LuSan Bidets (pronounced Bid-ays) – mainly to better leverage online marketing strategies. We now offer several different types of integrated bidet appliances; all supplied in easy-to-install kit forms that can provide effective, reliable and affordable solutions to most, or all of these problems – as required by the customer.
The prices of similar overseas products (from competing on-line stores) certainly look attractive until you realize that their kits usually: do not supply everything needed for connection, cannot consistently tolerate high water pressure, frequently leak water on the floor after use, are not suited for attachment to plasterboard walls and may not include any kind of automatic backflow protection device or filter.
Check out some of the comments at Reveiw Bidets and you will see that even the most expensive hand-held models do not last if the issue of high water pressure is not correctly addressed.
As an established Australian business; we have over 8 years experience in the continuous testing & use of hand-held bidets, and are well positioned to back-up any claims we make for the products we sell.
Please don’t fall for the old trap of: “because it shows a Watermark Logo and Licence No. – it must be OK”.
Australian Standards ‘Watermark Approval’ was a good idea; but introduced primarily to protect licensed plumbers from potential litigation issues arising from a product failure. IE: that Watermarked products are fit for purpose and appropriately authorised for use in plumbing installations.
According to Standards Australia: “A Standard is a published document that sets out specifications and procedures designed to ensure that a material, product, method or service is fit for its purpose and consistently performs the way it was intended to”.
Watermark approval is NOT a guarantee that the product will last for any specific period of time.
Only a warranty can give this assurance!
Although some of the components in our kits are Australian Standards Watermark approved; we have not applied for watermark approval for the imported components in our kits – nor do we intend doing so in the near future (unless the whole Watermark Approval process becomes much more streamlined & affordable).
We understand this may present a problem for some builders needing to install our products into their client’s project, but licensed plumbers beware:
Some of our competitors are displaying their products with the Watermark Logo and a Licence No. displayed on the packaging. However according to the regulatory authourity ABCD, the relevant product standard and the license number are required to be marked on the product itself.
A simple Google search for any Watermark licence number (four letters & five numbers such as: WMKA00076) will also turn up the products that HAVE actually been approved for use under any specific Watermark licence No.
Don’t be duped; if the product in question is not listed under the Watermark licence No., the product HAS NOT been Watermark tested/certified, and has not been granted a ‘WaterMark Certificate of Conformity’ – to any relevant existing standard or approved Technical Specification.
When you buy from us you have the assurance of a full 12 months – 2 years (product specific) Warranty against any defects in workmanship or materials, reliable after sales service including a good range of spare parts, and the considerable advantage of lower cost shipping by purchasing from within Australia. Imported components for our kits only come from reputable ISO 9001 quality compliant overseas manufacturers. Each individual imported item is also carefully re-checked and tested prior to assembly and packaging for sale.
We believe our bidet kits are not only the easiest to install, but are also the most reliable, functional and aesthetically pleasing for the price.
Effective toilet sanitation solutions that are dependable, easily installed & affordable.
Our Mission Statement:
To ‘plant’ as many bidets in ‘loos’ as we possibly can!
